Lovable vs Bolt: plans, undo and what breaks on publish

Both turn a prompt into a working web app, and both can leave you with an app that works in the editor and breaks live. This page covers what a diagnosis service can speak to: plan limits, undoing a bad change, and what breaks on publish.

Short answer: I can't tell you which one builds the better app. I don't build with either. Test both on a small version of your idea, and pick on price and on how you like to work.

1. What the plans give you (checked 20 Oct 2026)

Bolt, from bolt.new/pricing: Free is $0 with 1M tokens a month and a 300K daily limit. Pro is $18 a month billed annually, with 10M tokens a month that roll over and no daily limit.

Lovable, from lovable.dev/pricing: the free plan gives a daily grant of 5 build credits, capped at 30 a month. The paid plans are Pro and Business. Read their current prices on that page, since they change.

Tokens and credits are different units, so the numbers don't compare one to one. Build the same small test on each free plan and see how much you use.

2. Where each plan fits

If you want to build for hours in one day, Bolt's free plan stops at 300K tokens a day, and its Pro plan has no daily limit. Lovable's free build credits come as 5 a day.

Bolt's free plan says it's free forever and needs no card. Lovable's page says starting to build is free.

On price alone I can't call a winner. Which is cheaper depends on how much you prompt.

3. Undoing a bad change

In Lovable, open History, pick the version that worked and click Revert. Reverting restores your code, not your database data.

In Bolt, open Version history, select a version, click Restore this version, then confirm with Restore version. Bolt's docs say restoring doesn't change your current Bolt or Supabase databases.

In both, the code goes back and the data stays as it is. Check your tables after you restore either one.

signs A fix attempt broke something that worked, and you can't tell what changed.

4. Publishing

Lovable publishes a snapshot, and changes aren't pushed to your live app on their own. You choose Publish, then Publish changes. The cause list is in Lovable app not working: find the cause, then fix it.

Bolt builds the app from scratch on a host when you publish, with only the settings that host has. The preview is a quick test run. The five checks are in Bolt app won't publish.

In both, the preview can look fine while the live site breaks.

signs The preview works and the live link is blank, older, or missing data.

5. The checks that repeat

Two checks appear in both guides: environment variables on the host, and the Supabase Site URL and Redirect URLs for the live address.

If the live site says supabaseUrl is required, start with supabaseUrl is required: blank page on your live site.

If login works in the preview and fails live, read Supabase login works locally but fails in production.

6. When either one breaks

FixedLaunch diagnoses apps built with Lovable, Bolt and the other builders listed on the home page. The price is the same: $149.

I don't push you toward one builder. A diagnosis finds why your app is broken, whichever tool made it.

Common questions

Is Lovable or Bolt cheaper?

It depends on how much you prompt. Bolt counts tokens and Lovable counts build credits, so the numbers don't compare one to one. Build the same small test on each free plan and see how much of the allowance you use.

How do I undo a bad change in Lovable or Bolt?

In Lovable, open History, pick the version that worked and click Revert. In Bolt, open Version history, select a version and choose Restore this version. In both, your code goes back and your database data stays as it is, so check your tables afterwards.

Why does my Lovable or Bolt app work in the preview but not when published?

The live site is built separately, with only the settings the host has. Check the environment variables on the host first, then the Supabase Site URL and Redirect URLs for the live address. In Lovable, also check you chose Publish changes after your last edit.

Still stuck?

Not sure this is the cause? Paste your app's link into the free scan. It lists what a visitor's browser can see, like leaked keys and exposed files, worst first. The score is free; every fix as a prompt for your builder is $9, one-time.
